Bachelors படும் பாடு

A friend of mine asked me to come along recently, when he went to check out a couple of apartments that were up for sale along Hosur road. While visiting one of the apartments he started wondering aloud about the suitability of the apartment - it was far off from his work place and the area was not very developed. The builder suggested that he could always rent it out to IT folks and added: "Sir, you can easily get 10,000 rupees rent and charge bachelors an extra Rs.1000".

And here's the complaint from the beach front apartment owners in Valmiki Nagar:
...young people seem to consume lots of water.

Tamilians to the rescue

With their obstinate opposition to imposition of Hindi as National Language, Tamilians rescued most of South Indians from a potential North Indian domination over South India. If Hindi was made the National Language, the Tamil scholars, who were adept in English but not in Hindi, felt they would lose out heavily in all kinds of jobs and opportunities the new country would open up.

While other South Indians did not have the same clout over Indian Administrative Services and other bureaucratic jobs, Tamils were ruling the roost. They had featured in constituent assembly and cabinet meetings to influence the thinking of the Indian Government, and they fought tooth-and-nail to oppose all moves by North Indians to impose Hindi as the national language. It was a hard won battle. And thanks to this bitter opposition, the roots of which lie in a selfish attempt to safeguard their interests, we have English as the official language for all states, making Hindi one of the many Indian languages, not a special one.

As a long term advantage, we can thank Tamils for how India took on the Information Technology Revolution and brought itself global acclaim. It allowed India to join the mainstream economies, bring employment to its people, and most important of all, emancipate its downtrodden.

Might be off a little about facts, but it's about time this is acknowledged. Only now are the dangers of north Indianism being recognised in other parts of the country. It's interesting what people will talk about when left to themselves sans the political correctness of the workplace etc, on their blogs, on web forums especially. It's literally a battle ground out there on various web forums these days; every topic soon degenerates into a north-south argument. Reading the trolls might not be very informative, but it sure shows what people are getting worked up about. It's almost as if it's one of the uppermost thoughts on many people's minds.

Tennis Appearance Money: Economics of the Madhouse

... in 1990 when the ATP Tour started encouraging tournament directors to wave the carrot of guaranteed fees on top of prize money. These guarantees often dwarf the amounts of prize money on offer and distort the economic realities of life on the men's tour. Although the WTA has steadfastly refused to sanction the practice, marquee attractions like Maria Sharapova get around it by signing up for extra promotional appearances.

Shortly after securing the appearance of Rafael Nadal at the Stella Artois Championships in 2007 and 2008, tournament director Ian Wight recently conceded:

We are killing our game. It is the economics of the madhouse that a player can receive more than three times the prize money not for winning a tournament but just for turning up.
