Outsider in Chennai - The Dead Giveaway

A few English newspapers from other states have trying to worm their way into the consciousness of Chennai மக்கள் with cheap tricks (with word-drops like மச்சான் etc) ably aided by disgruntled ex-staffers from the existing newspapers. But it's hard to keep up the pretence for long. Here's the Deccan Chronicle surprised by the heat in February:
Feb. 24: The cool weather that comforted Chennaiites all these days is set to change with the impending arrival of summer.

The city, which experienced a minimum temperature of 18 to 20 degree Celsius for the last two months, has now started recording around 24 degree Celsius.

MahaVishnu supplement has gone to dogs as has much of the papr. Janaranjagam endra peyaril, fear of competition etc has made them irrational. These days my newspaper reading is confined to the post-lunch reception area browsing.

Lol, 'The Hindu' after the Bofors investigation has not produced any noteworthy piece of work. The centre page is so full of syndicated columns, then there are the ads all over - I wonder if there is even a pretension anymore that it's anything more than a business. In terms of guts even the TOI sounds and trashy publications like Mid-Day seem better at times.
